About me

  • Hi .. nice to meet you.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been someone who has enjoyed the Arts and Craft. It was a way for me to truly relax and enjoy seeing something come together piece by piece, and to concentrate on nothing else but my creation. I’ve probably tried most things which fit into this category - sewing, painting, drawing, clay work, embroidery, knitting and crocheting - and to be honest, I enjoyed it all.

However, it was a recent trip to Japan which sparked a different type of joy - Sashiko. It is a traditional Japanese stitching technique that was historically used to fuse together multiple layers of fabric when resources where scarce, and has since evolved to incorporate decorative designs. I fell in love with it and committed to stitching together an entire Sashiko quilt (1.8m x 1.2m) for my father - a process which took ~5 months in total and I couldn’t have been happier with the result.

  • My happy space where magic happens

  • It got me thinking - how could I share the love of Sashiko in a contemporary way with those around me, without quite so much commitment? And preferably for the final products to be showed off on a daily basis? That’s when it came to me - tote bags are something people consistently use and I could create designs that fuse traditional patterns with modern designs. They are purposely made to be easy enough for a beginner to complete (e.g. a 10 year old child) and without any expensive equipment or prior experience. It is also compact enough to work on during a long-haul flight to New York as a dear friend proved, which turned out to be the perfect accompaniment to the flight entertainment system!

So relax, pop on your favourite show or podcast, and stitch the day away. Handmade with love, by you.
